On January 16, 2009, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that
an updated version of the HIPAA transactions will be required for use by all physicians to submit
health care electronic transactions, including professional & institutional claims, payment advice/remittance,
eligibility benefit verification, and claim status. Presently, all transactions utilize version 4010A1, approved in 2002.
However, due to many limitations of the 4010A1 format The Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) has been working continuously to define
a new format that will better meet the needs of the health care industry. The end result of their work is the
new 005010 format, better known as "5010".
Medical Intuition Technologies LLC has been following the progress of the 5010 format closely, and has been
working with its vendors and clearing house to establish implementation and testing time frames. Presently,
the compliance deadline for using only the 5010 transactions is January 1, 2012.
MedIT is committed to providing its clients with technology infrastructure that is up-to-date on all HIPAA
and health care industry standards.
